Norbar Case Study
Digital Torque Verification for Rail Maintenance
Overview
Maintaining confidence in production torque wrenches requires more than scheduled calibration. It also requires a simple, repeatable verification process that operators will use every day.
A leading Australian rail component manufacturer partnered with Norbar Australia to implement a digital torque verification system that improves traceability, simplifies compliance and provides immediate confirmation that production torque wrenches are ready for use.
The Challenge
Every torque wrench used in production should be verified before critical work begins.
For many workshops, however, proving those checks have taken place can become a challenge. Manual record keeping, inconsistent verification routines and increasing audit requirements make it difficult to maintain complete traceability.
The company faced this challenge within its rail maintenance operations. It needed a verification process that could become part of everyday workflow while automatically recording every result.
The solution needed to be simple to use, easy to integrate and capable of providing reliable records to support quality assurance and compliance.
The Solution
To standardise torque wrench verification, the company implemented multiple Norbar TruCheck® 2 Plus torque analysers covering the required torque ranges.
The units were integrated directly into custom verification software developed in-house.
Before work begins, operators simply scan their identification, the torque wrench and the workstation barcode before completing a quick verification check.
Results are displayed instantly using a clear pass or fail indicator while every verification is automatically recorded against both the operator and the tool.
The entire process takes just a few seconds, providing complete digital traceability without additional paperwork.
Project Benefits
Fast Verification
Torque wrenches can be verified in just a few seconds before work begins.
Digital Traceability
Every verification result is automatically linked to the operator, torque wrench and workstation.
Improved Audit Readiness
Digital records provide a clear verification history and simplify compliance reporting.
Consistent Workflow
A standardised verification process reduces variation between operators and encourages routine tool checks.
National Rollout
The success of the initial installation has led to national deployment across the company’s Australian sites.
Results
The new verification system has standardised torque wrench verification while simplifying daily operations.
By replacing manual record keeping with an automated digital workflow, the company improved traceability, strengthened audit readiness and increased confidence that production torque wrenches are performing correctly before use.
Following the successful implementation, the system is now being rolled out across the company’s facilities throughout Australia.
