Oil & Gas
Lightweight and ready for the harshest environments
We’re pioneers in the field of lightweight torque tools, gearboxes and transducers, specially designed to withstand the rigours of harsh environment, offshore and subsea use, and meet the increasing demands Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) operators.
We’ve already made a name for ourselves delivering in the harshest environments on land, like refineries, pipelines and oil and gas installations.
Solutions to match the environment
Our range of tools have been specially designed to minimise weight and maximise durability for offshore, subsea and harsh environment applications.

Pneumatic Tooling
Smooth, continuous, controllable and fast torque with low noise and vibration for a huge range of applications – from 500N⋅m to 300,000N⋅m.
The Norbar PneuTorque® is faster than comparable hydraulic ratcheting tools. These attributes make PneuTorque® wrenches suitable for a huge range of applications in the oil and gas industry, from flange bolting to machinery barring (turbines and engines) and torque testing.
Valve Actuator Testing
The ability of Norbar’s PneuTorque® range of pneumatic torque multipliers to give smooth, controllable torque up to 300,000 N·m has made them invaluable in the pressure testing of valves to maximum scale. The tools are usually combined with torque transducers and often with angle measurement so that a relationship can be plotted between the exact position of the valve stem and the actuation torque.

The problem
The Severn Glocon valves used in the oil and mining industry are exposed to tough environmental conditions. As a result, the Break to Open (BTO) torque value of a ball valve can increase over time due to corrosion. Being able to measure any change in the BTO over the life of a valve is important for Quality Assurance requirements and ensuring they are operating optimally. In this case, at various sites a torque wrench was being used to approximate the BTO of the valves, leaving highly pressurised pipes potentially unsafe and inefficient.
Engineering the solution
The solution proposed by Norbar was an engineered–to–order (ETO) reaction arm, designed by Norbar’s mechanical engineering team and manufactured locally. This reaction arm was combined with the Norbar EvoTorque Battery Tool EBT–80–2700, which includes on-board EvoLog reporting software. By tracking real-time data the peak torque or Break To Open can be captured on every application.
The results
Precision measurement, for optimal valve actuation
Easy accountability, by tracking and reporting on data in real-time
Elimination of manual torquing, easily achieving the required BTO value
