Toll Group Boosts Safety and Efficiency with the Norbar EBT-C
Why a battery torque wrench was the smarter choice for Toll Group
Toll Group, one of Australia’s largest logistics operators, manages a national fleet of road trains operating across regional and remote routes. Each combination can have more than 400 wheel nuts that require precise retorquing to maintain road safety and compliance.
Traditionally, this process relied on a large manual torque wrench operated by two technicians. The work was time-consuming, physically demanding, often conducted in hot conditions, and carried a risk of strain injuries. Working with NAPA and Norbar, Toll identified an opportunity to modernise its wheel-nut maintenance process using the Norbar EBT-C Battery Torque Tool.
The Challenge
Manual torque wrenches required significant physical effort to reach the high torque values needed for heavy transport wheels. The process was slow and laborious, often requiring two operators to complete each job.
Across Toll’s workshops, some of the main challenges included:
- High risk of strain injuries and fatigue from repetitive movements
- Variation in torque accuracy between operators
- Slow turnaround on servicing road trains with hundreds of wheel nuts
- Labour inefficiency due to a two-person operation

The Solution
In partnership with NAPA, Norbar introduced the EBT-C Cordless Torque Tool, a compact, transducer-controlled torque multiplier designed for high-torque applications.
Key benefits included:
- Single-operator use, replacing a two-person task
- Transducer-controlled accuracy with digital torque verification
- Battery-powered mobility, removing the need for hoses or cords
- Reduced physical strain for improved operator comfort and safety
The Results
After successful trials, Toll implemented the EBT-C across more than ten workshops nationally.
The results were immediate:
- Zero injuries since adoption
- Over 50% faster wheel-nut servicing times
- Consistent torque readings, improving wheel integrity and compliance
- Single-person operation, freeing labour for other workshop tasks
- Positive feedback from operators, who described the tool as lighter, faster, and easier to use
