What’s the Difference Between Transducerised and Non-Transducerised Torque Tools?

October 7, 2024

Another question we get asked frequently at Norbar Australia is: What’s the difference between a transducerised and a non-transducerised torque tool? Let’s break it down:

A transducerised torque tool is equipped with a transducer that physically measures the torque being applied in real-time. Take our EBT torque tools, for example. In these tools, the transducer is located directly behind the gearbox and provides continuous measurement of the torque output. This live measurement ensures that, regardless of external factors like battery life or temperature changes, you’ll achieve accuracy to within plus or minus 3% or better. This level of precision is critical in industries where torque accuracy can make or break the job.

On the other hand, non-transducerised torque tools estimate torque output based on an algorithm that calculates torque from the tool’s current draw. While this may seem like a convenient option, it carries significant risks. As the battery begins to drain or the tool heats up during use, the accuracy of the torque output can be affected dramatically, leading to inconsistencies and potential errors in your work.

So, if accuracy is essential for your business, there’s really only one choice: transducerised torque tools.
